WBC OPEN - EUROPE 2015

The World Ballet Competition - OPEN - is open to classical ballet and contemporary dance styles: Ballet (pointe), contemporary, modern, jazz, neoclassical, and lyrical.

- WBC Open Regulations are different from the WBC USA (World Finals) in Orlando, Florida, USA

- Entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be closed when each location's quota is reached or 25 days prior to the competition date, whichever comes first.

- There is no pre-selection for the WBC OPEN. Entries are accepted as they arrive (registration begins January 1, 2015).

- Age is determined as of May 1st of the Competition Year.

- WBC OPEN registration forms must be received no later than 25 days prior to the date of the competition. Registrations received after the cut-off dates are subject to a $50.00 (USD) late fee charge.

 ***Any payment made after the Registration deadline (25 days prior to the competition) MUST be made by phone.

- No changes are accepted after submitting your Registration form.

- Please Note: If competing in the Pas de Deux Category, both the male and female dancer are required to compete. The age difference of each partner must not exceed three years of the partner.

- All payments are final. There are no refunds.

 

WBC OPEN Divisions

**IMPORTANT: Competitors age 8, 25 or 26 as of May 1st will not be eligible to participate in the WBC USA 2015.

Individual Division:

Introductory Category (Ages 8-11) 

Preparatory Category (Ages 12-13) 

Pre-Professional Category (Ages 14-17)

Professional Category (Ages 18-26)

Group Division:

Ensemble (Ages 8-26) 

Pas de Deux Category  (Ages 14-26)

 

 

WBC OPEN Competition Rounds

All contestants will compete against each other in categories separated by age. Results will be posted immediately after each age category is completed. The highest scored solos in each age category will be given an invitation by the jury to compete for the “WBC OPEN Excellence Award” of $3,000. A wild card finalist may be chosen by the WBC OPEN Panel to compete in this contest. At the Judges’ decision "WBC OPEN Excellence Award" can be split between top scoring competitors. Top scoring competitors will be eligible to win comprehensive prizes and/or an invitation to the World Ballet Competition USA in Orlando, Florida.

 

Individual Category

Must perform ONE of the following solos:

**Each competitor has the option to perform up to three (3) solos total – each giving competitor a chance to obtain a higher score. Only the highest scored solo will be considered for advancement, placement and/or award. Each additional solo fee is $80 (US Dollars).

*Please note: If you are accepted to advance to the WBC USA Finals in Orlando, Florida, USA, the WBC USA has different requirements. The WBC USA allows competitors to perform variations only from the WBC USA 2015 Repertoire List and you may be required to perform a contemporary(s). Must perform one entry from the following categories:

The competitor’s performance consists of Classical Ballet Solos and/or Pas de Deux (recommended to be selected from the WBC Repertoire List) and Contemporary pieces (free choice) choreographed within 5 years of the competition date. Contemporary refers to Neoclassical, Modern, Lyrical and/or Jazz styles. Failure to do so will result in penalty or disqualification from competition.

Failure to comply with the time limit requirement will result in penalty or disqualification from competition.

Competitors will have an open stage of 10 minutes (per each group of 12 +/- competitors in each category). If competitors are arriving days before the WBC OPEN starts they may purchase personal stage time @ $120 for each hour or $70 US Dollars for each 30 minutes. Must make advance reservations and pay in full! All Payments are final and there are no refunds given for cancellations!

The highest scored solos in each age category will be given an invitation by the WBC OPEN jury to compete for the “WBC OPEN Excellence Award”. A wild card finalist may be chosen by the WBC OPEN Panel to compete in this contest. At the Judges’ decision "WBC OPEN Excellence Cash Award" can be split between competitors. Winners will be eligible to win comprehensive prizes.

Introductory, Preparatory, Pre-Professional, Professional, Pas de Deux, and Ensemble Categories are eligible for titles, comprehensive prizes and/or cash awards. All competitors will be awarded a Diploma of Participation.

**World Ballet Competition USA in Orlando: Selected winners will be invited to compete in the WBC USA held in Orlando, Florida. Selected winners may be selected for Stars of Dance Gala in Sibiu, Romania and possible invitation to All Stars of Dance Gala in Orlando, Florida, USA with all expenses paid.

Selected Winners will be invited to compete in the WBC USA held in Orlando, Florida following requirement with the WBC Finals registration fee payment.

 

Music CD                                                                              Back to Top

Each competitor must submit one (1) copy of their music at the WBC OPEN's Competitor Orientation in Sibiu. Only one (1) piece per CD. Please bring a back-up copy to keep for yourself.
